The Incubator evaluates and supports projects at different stages, generally moving from an initial screening at the idea stage, to a suite of project support in the design and development phase.  Engagement is at the design phase, with the aim of exit at the point where projects have secured finance from market or non-market mechanisms.

  • REDD for Conservation of Amazon Rainforest in the Surui Indigenous Territory, Brazil

    Brazil, Rondonia -  

    The Surui REDD project aims to use REDD+ finance to support the Surui indigenous peoples of Brazil in their efforts to develop alternative livelihoods and protect over 240,000 hectares of forest.

  • Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve: Carbon Finance for Community Reforestation

    Mexico, Sierra Gorda -  

    Support for small-scale reforestation for restoration of degraded lands within one of Mexico’s most ecologically diverse protected areas, the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.  Testing models for aggregation of small landowners for accessing global carbon finance.

  • Nudo del Azuay: Developing a Payment for Hydrological Services Mechanism

    Ecuador, Nudo del Azuay -  

    Establish a funding mechanism for conservation and sustainable – use activities to ensure sediment control and flow stabilization by providing incentive payments to upland landowners. Develop a structure to leverage funds by direct water users (hydropower) and central government incentive payment support.

  • Biochar Feasibility Assessment, Costa Rica

    Costa Rica, Osa Peninsula -  

    Assessing the potential for biochar to enhance the production of ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration, through enhanced biomass production and carbon storage in soils.

  • Sustainable Charcoal Production, Ghana

    Ghana, Nkoranza District -  

    This Incubator project is piloting a district wide effort to ensure more efficient production methods, which can reduce carbon emissions by reducing the amount of wood required to produce charcoal.

  • Sustainable Beef Initiative, Brazil

    Brazil, Cuiabá -  

    Aliança da Terra, a Brazilian organization of ranchers and farmers committed to environmental conservation, has created a Registry of Socio-Economic Responsibility in the Xingu River Headwaters Region to help land owners comply with the law and observe best land stewardship practices.  Financial incentives in the form of payments for ecosystem services (PES) will be critical for the Registry’s maintenance and growth. 

  • York Timbers: Sawmill Waste Power Generation

    South Africa, Mpumalanga -  

    The project will enhance the economic viability of FSC-certified timber production by obtaining carbon credits.

  • Budongo-Bugoma Landscape Project

    Uganda, Hoima -  

    The goal of this project is to facilitate network formation among communities, private forest owners and local governments for collective development and implementation of a landscape forest management plan in order to reduce deforestation and degradation and market emission reductions.

  • Cocoa Carbon: Carbon Finance to Improve Sustainability of Cocoa Production

    Ghana, Bongo -  

    Incubator is working to test whether carbon finance can play a pivotal role in shifting cocoa farming in Ghana onto a more sustainable path, through a number of potential REDD-Plus activities.

  • Alto Huayabamba Conservation Concession (CCAH) REDD Project

    Peru, San Martin -  

    The Incubator is developing a REDD project that contributes directly to conservation of a 146,000 forest concession on the Amazon slopes of the Peruvian Andes and pilots a framework for nesting of project activities within national and sub-national systems in order to deliver compliance grade emissions reductions.

  • Nyankamba: Strengthening Community Resource Management Areas with REDD

    Ghana, Gonja -  

    This project is designed conserve wildlife and promote sustainable alternative land uses. REDD funding will be implemented for conservation activities including environmental education, social and health programs, etc.

  • Liberian Protected Areas

    Liberia, Cape Mount County -  

    Conservation through REDD pilot project development, national level REDD strategy, and local pilot initiatives and policy support.
