Incubator » About The Katoomba Incubator
The Katoomba Incubator provides comprehensive support to bring promising ecosystem services projects to the point where they can access markets or other sustainable finance, with a primary emphasis on terrestrial carbon. The Incubator aims to develop projects that successfully deliver value to landowners and investors, but also sees projects as platforms for broader impact, contributing to informing policy and building a critical mass of professional capacity in key regions.
The Incubator focuses primarily on communities and small to medium landowners, a sector that plays a key role in providing ecosystem services but faces particular barriers and challenges to finance. Early-stage Incubator investments in capacity building, project design and technical assessment create the enabling conditions and platforms to leverage other finance and positions local stakeholders for equitable participation in benefits.
Current priorities include REDD and indigenous peoples, aggregation mechanisms for small- and medium-producer market engagement, and community management and benefit-sharing arrangements. Priority geographies include the Andean region, Brazil, West Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa.
Contact UsThe Katoomba Incubator is a program of Forest Trends, an international non-profit with a mission to: expand the value of forests to society; promote sustainable forest management and conservation by creating and capturing market values for ecosystem services; support innovative projects and companies that are developing these markets; and enhance the livelihoods of local communities living in and around those forests.
