Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil

Chefs, consumers, indigenous communities and conservation organizations are forging unique, new
partnerships across the Amazon region, celebrating rainforest biodiversity through food and
gastronomy – and in the process building new economic opportunities for conservation and local
communities. People and organizations from disparate backgrounds are working on Amazon food
issues from diverse perspectives, conforming a far-flung and often poorly connected community of
practice.
The Cumari Katoomba Meeting will bring together people and organizations at the cutting edge of
sustainable Amazon food and gastronomy to stimulate exchange and collaboration, share knowledge
and build momentum for a broader Amazon food movement.
The event will be hosted in Acre, Brazil, a state at the forefront of creating new economies based on
rainforest biodiversity, in celebration Chico Mendes’ legacy on the 30th anniversary of his assassination
