Objective: Facilitate regional dialogue on different national experiences in the implementation of compensation schemes for ecosystem services, while promoting them as a tool for ecosystem management, conservation, and restoration.

Summary: This workshop was part of a series of actions by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador (MAE), the Network of Stakeholders in Environmental Services (RISAS), the IUCN Regional Office for South America (IUCN SUR), and CEL, to strengthen the advocacy capacities of organized civil society and the development and exchange of knowledge at the management policy level, through a joint analysis of the challenges and opportunities of compensation schemes for ecosystem services in the region. The Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development has been instrumental in this initiative.
